In other news:

CBS in the shape of John van Citters gave me green light to get my starships in Star Trek Online.

I'm preparing a list of questions and tech specs that I need to sent to Cryptic, see how and if we can shape this. To be continued. :)

  2. Dark Shinobi: one of my goals this year was to get the Vesta in the game Star Trek Online. (Cryptic is the company behind that game.)

That is where this post was about. :) I personally dont expect a TV series soon.

  3. Actually it's now Perfect World overlording over Cryptic, hehehehe, but just the same it's gonna be great to see your ships in STO! I just hope the in game specs do the ship justice, lol! But hey, so long as she slipstreams across STO and puts an evil dent in Borg ships, I'll hush, lol!

  4. As a dedicated Star Trek Online player, I have to say that I'd be thrilled to have the Vesta Class (and any of your other designs) in-game. This is great news, and I wish you the best of luck in working with Cryptic Studios. It really would be a thrill to see Vestas out there, exploring the Star Trek Online galaxy.

  8. Oh man, that's awesome Mark! I have been wanting the Vesta class in-game ever since I saw the Aventine on SotL.

Any chance they will pick up the NX-01.5? ;) Now that would be amazing...

    Congrats!

    1. Thanks guys! :) I feel happy (partly) I still have a lot of work to do!

Trypwyr: the NX-1.5 is Doug Drexler's idea! Pierre Droulet did the modeling of the secondary hull. Doug and I talked briefly about the 1.5.
If I ever get a lot of time I would redo the entire ship in high detail. (Like the Ringship.)

      Meanwhile I was/am toying with plans for a Season 7 refit: http://lh6.ggpht.com/_1oTNGkUkHgM/TBjJ2HBNLxI/AAAAAAAAB6Y/Rhah6tC0nkA/s1600-h/nx01concept%5B4%5D.jpg

  11. So happy. STO might be a mess of an MMO, but I've been waiting for the Vesta for as long as I can remember. Make sure they do her justice, Mark.

  12. Congrats Mark! Good for you!
may i suggest you take your Vesta to Star Trek Excalibur Team to put your Vesta in, they're adding Fanmade and Canon Ships together for Star Trek Excalibur. my STOI, (Star Trek Online Information) is supporting and promoting STE for the STE Team. i wish you the best, Mark!

  13. Great news. Love your ships!

As for the slipstream, it´s a given.
Actually every ship in STO has Slipstream drive once your character reaches max level.

What will be interesting is in what slot they will try to fit it.

Due to time and budget constraints Cryptic had to basically "trekify" their superhero game.
So now we have three classes of ships. Cruiser(tank), science ship(crowd control, healer), escort(damage).
Though they seem to be working on re-balancing this harsh divide.

The game actually could use a nice advanced escort ship(think Defiant/Prometheus). The Vesta looks compact and "mean" enough to fulfill that role IMHO.

Cryptic really could use Mark´s talent.

Not the least to polish up the old blunders made under the severe time and budgetary constraints greedy Atari put them under.

Though it´s admirable what the small and dedicated STO team managed to create despite all the stones thrown in their path.

  15. Your work is interesting, but you put far far too much hull kibble all over everything. It makes the ship look overly busy and like it doesn't even belong in the trek universe. I'm not saying you don't have talent, but you have to just leave stuff alone at some point and stop adding so much. It's too much.

    1. Too much is a Star Destroyer! :) Too little is a TOS Enterprise. Dont hit me, I will try to expla.. ouch! :D Why I certainly understand and agree with Jefferies idea of having everything on the inside of the ship to avoid space walks, it might not always be possible to do so, certainly not when you create an experimental Quantum Slipstream Drive ship that was inspired by the Intrepid.(Sensors anyone?)

In case an experimental device would become unstable, you may want to detach it from the ship, or at least have them blast outwards. Placing them inside might be risky.

Another reason why the ship had so much detail is because it was designed with printed media in mind, it was wild, it only got 1 month on the calendar to get noticed. I had no idea it would be loved (or hated) this much and for so long.

However: the paintjob does a lot too, another Vesta called U.S.S. Quirinal (I have been experimenting with it today) has an almost white paint scheme, with no black or blue armor, it makes the ship more "mature", like if the designer finally grew up... wait a sec, I would fly that hot rod painted one any day! :D I'm posting a shot of that ship soon.

Btw: the Demeter, that will be one of the cleanest ships I ever designed for the Trek universe. Do keep in mind it's a Vulcan/Andorian hybrid, so it's a dart in space. :)

    2. Dont sweat it Mark there always haters always peopl that think TOS is the only Trek and everything has to be smooth and simple TOS ships were nice and smooth outside but clunky and cluttered inside TNG and after are a little less smooth outside but Way smoother inside. I dont think the Vesta is in anyway to greebled the Merian class is more greebled but not in a bad or over done way. Dont change the way you do anything over his/her post your doing good very good.

  16. Absolutely THRILLED to hear that the Vesta class is coming to Star Trek Online.

Personally, I think you could, with a little arm-twisting, bring the other members of the "slipstream trifecta" - the Merian and Planck classes - to the game as well.

Furthermore, it would be nice if the powers that be at CBS & Perfect World would also include a featured mission pack based on Project Full Circle in the Destiny novels.

I have been extremely busy lately with all kinds of stuff that have nothing to do with 3D, but I hope to get started again mid May.

fair enough :p theres a lot of us want to see it in the game asap xD No offence to their in-house designs , but the vesta is far . FAR nicer than most of the ships in that game

tell me about it the only decent tier 5 ships are retrofits or the Odyssey from what i heard the Vesta is going to be a science ship and the Merian is guna be an Escort but really A LOT of the STO ships are very badly designed like the escorts and sci ships theyre blocky impractical hunks or duranium my 2 Tacticals are flying the Defiant retrofit my Eng will prolly end up flying an Odyssey by the time he gets to VA though the Galaxy Dread or Excelsior retro are tempting. I can only hope the Vesta is in by time my sci gets to VA i dont know much about the Cat carrier yet I may get it as a aux ship def not a primary.

tbh i very much doubt they'll lump the vesta in as a science ship only , since its more a multi mission explorer like the galaxy than a pure science ship imo

    plus it has cannons :p

aye and the Merian is Def not an Escort yet ive heard that Cryptic is guna set it as an Escort maybe with an extra sci or eng slot instead of the third tac slot? that could be interesting hmm yes drop the ens tac and add a higher rank eng or sci slot might be nice after a nice strafing run drop a lvl 2 or 3 tykens rift swing back around boomy :P duno we shall see ill be happy just to have em in game

I'm hoping that the(ludicrously unsatisfying) tweetleak the devs put out this week might be one of Mark's designs.

I can't wait personally, finally I'll be able to enjoy the amazing Vesta class without having to subject myself to the horrible novelverse(to each their own, but I can't stand it personally).

I am sorry to hear that your ship is going to be in STO. I love your design as do others. So, I am sure they will put it in a lock box or some other system that requires players to cough up to $250 to command this ship. It's really sad out Cryptic and PWE are abusing the Trek community.

your sorry? well a lot of people are not they want his ships in the game. and you dont have to spend a dime to get a good ship you can farm dilithium then exchange that dilithium for c-points (zen) and get keys for lock boxes without spending one penny.. a and of course there the people that get open lock boxes then sell the contents on the exchange.. again you dont have to spend a penny to get good stuff you just have to do a bit of work but its fun work..
