Spring!

I thought it would be a good idea to update the colors of my blog to a more suitable spring time style. :) I'm really looking forward to sunlight, green leaves, warmth and DRY weather.

What am I up to next?
I finished the Aventine calendar image, and I'm taking a break from 3D this week and the next. After that I do:

March/April/May:
some tweaking of the Aventine, this is an ongoing project, I still want to modify and enhance certain area's for close up shots and make it lighter for animation.

April/May/June/July/August:
a design of a 50-70 meter long mega-yacht(sea)ship for the near future. I tried to start on this 2 times before but time was a problem. This is however a way to cool project to abandon!

August/September/November/December:
the SOTL2011 image, however I'm not sure what will be up after the new Trek movie, so this plan might change.

    so i guess this means we probably wont see the finished Aventine for a while now... he put it in the ongoing through may stuff... man and i was all excited to get a good look at it too.

    i can wait a little while longer lol

    Hi mjmjr91, the ship is ready and finished. I just want to do some more tweaking for future renders.

    I'm not "allowed" to post images of the Aventine at this moment. I think there should be an update on Trekmovie.com this week or the next week.

    I'm looking forward to seeing it.
    Your gallery includes a couple of pictures of a "hypothetical" ship - is that an early version of the Aventine?

    Hi Eric,

    Not directly, some features/techniques I learned on these ships are also used on the Aventine, and I'm sure I got infuenced a little by my past attempts, but that's about it. The Aventine I did in the last 4 months from sketch to final. :)

Many months have passed since I last posted an update. While my intention was to share anything the project I was working on was too important/too demanding to write an article during the "construction". The IXS Enterprise, a very early concept of the first real warpship. When I got invited by Dr. Harold "Sonny" White and Mike Okuda, I was absolutely stunned. Did that just really happen? A person from NASA contacted me to do artwork for them? Yes it did! Have a nice new year everyone! I'm currently working on a new project, it's movie related but not Star Trek or Star Wars. I'm afraid that's all I can say, it also means that there will be very little to show up to April because of the NDA. Meanwhile Thinkgeek.com is considering the idea of IXS Enterprise posters, a fun idea if you ask me. But: nothing is certain yet. :) In other news, I'm in the process of converting the Vesta class to mesh, improving some tiny design glitches at the same time. Mesh conversion is tricky, with different output in viewport and renderer... Also I have to redo the textures, this is basically a good thing as the current version relies too much on ancient procedural shaders, they need to go. Still once converted to mesh, the usability is going to be so much better. New renders will look better and hopefully a bit more realistic. :) Oh also, the new novel Takedown by John Jackson Miller is using the Aventine on the cover. I m...
