I really like the utilitarian feel of the ship, Mark! The final version is a great nod to the old Miranda class, and it addresses an issue that I always had with that design. There was no deflector!
Would you mind explaining your thoughts behind what appears to be a dual deflector here? I've seen it in some fan designs, but I know you like to have realistic reasons behind your designs.
2 deflectors for redundancy and the Quantum Slipstream drive. When opening a Quantum Slipstream conduit/tunnel the deflector needs to be at maximum. In such a case the second deflector can be put online to add the extra power needed. (Power that when routed to 1 deflector might fry it.)
Another solution would have been a more sophesticated deflector system, like perhaps on the Vesta. That one can handle it on its own. But 2 smaller relative "low tech" deflectors are safer and easier to maintain. This keeps the ship "entry level". (So you dont need a Torres or a La Forge to keep it running.)
Justin: I will see what I can do, but it will take a couple of months! :)
8of5!!! I will see what I can do, it was a really rought sketchy idea, but I might work it out in more detail. Better yet why dont you guys decide! (Im putting up a poll!)
I've voted with the duel wing option, cos I really do think it's quite lovely!
Horizontal nacelles to my mind means flipping them 45 degrees so they are wider on the top rather than the side? Which I'm imagining to look kind of odd.
i don´t have words yet, to describe how much i like it... maybe fascinated ??. In the next few days i´ll be watching these pics thoroughly. It´s a real good replacemente for the old but resourcefull miranda, you had a tough work here. And i add to Justin request, aaand for vesta too, because if i understood well what he asked, i would be really thanksfull to have some orthos from below, front and back in a good texture quality. Again... you rock !!!
I'm not crazy about the split rollbar variant but I love the clean lines you tend to use! I wonder what a double rollbar (one above and one below) version would look like and what reasons could exist for it. I also wonder if it could be tweaked so that changeable modules could be affixed to the top of the rollbar, nebula style.

Again, great work!
Thanks Justin!

Hope that helps!
Absolutely! Thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteAny chance we could get some individual (and larger) orthos of the ship for modeling purposes?
I like your rationale for the deflectors; I'm always impressed how much you've thought out the elements of your designs in in-universe ways.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that duel sensor bar variant, pleeease tell me that's a possible variation to be used for one of the other Merians in the fleet?

I've submitted my votes. I voted for horizontal nacelles, though I'm not sure I'm able to visualize exactly what you have in mind.

ReplyDeleteMay I ask... what are the circular structures on the center starboard and port sides of the nacelles?
ReplyDeleteUm is it just me or are the registry's the wrong direction on the underside?
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing!
ReplyDeleteJust curious, what did you make this in?
